Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue currently has a minimum of three (3) vacancies and is establishing a pool of qualified candidates for Part-Time Firefighter. Qualified candidates will remain in the pool for a period of 24-months.
Candidates must currently have a minimum of IFSAC Firefighter I and WA EMT-B license to be eligible.
The department requires the Candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. The PHQ must be completed by the closing date or you may not be eligible to move forward in the process.
To be included for this recruitment process, testing must be completed by 5:00 pm on January 13, 2023.
Classification: Part-Time Firefighter/EMT-BPart-Time Firefighters work no more than 150.5 hours per month (average of 35 hours). Part-Time Firefighters augment full-time, career staffing providing firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services including, but not limited to: Fire control and extinguishment, driving and operating firefighting apparatus and emergency vehicles, rescue, medical treatment, training, station, and equipment maintenance duties. In addition, Part-Time Firefighters perform project work related to their primary responsibilities under the direction of a Full-Time Career Firefighter or Fire Officer. The work schedule for Part-Time Firefighters is comprised of 24-hour shifts throughout the month to support adequate staffing up to the maximum of 150.5 hours per month.Compensation:

Weighted Application Candidate’s application materials will be evaluated on the basis of experience, certification, and education. Scoring of the application will be worth 10% of the applicant’s final score. Oral Board A panel interview will be conducted by CWIFR to determine the extent to which the applicant is a good fit with the organization. The panel will be comprised of three members representing the diversity of CWIFR’s members, one Full-Time Career Firefighter or Officer; one Part-Time Firefighter; and one Volunteer Firefighter or Officer. The oral board shall be weighted as 30% of the candidate's score. Combined Score Applicants with a combined score of 70% on the Weighted Application, Written Examination, and Oral Board and who have current NTN CPAT Certification will be selected for the pool of qualified applicants. The pool will be stratified into four groups (quartiles) based on their scores in the initial elements of the selection process. The number of individuals selected to continue in the process from the pool of qualified applicants at any given time will be based on the district’s staffing requirements.
