Umatilla County Fire District #1 is currently hiring for the positions of Firefighter/Paramedic and Firefighter/EMT. We are hiring a total of 7 positions, 6 of which are being funded by an AFG SAFER grant. All applicants are required to apply through the National Testing Network, complete the FireTEAM test, fill out the Personal History Questionary (PHQ), and have a valid CPAT. Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Possess Oregon State Paramedic License or EMT Basic by time of hire
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Meet the District’s physical qualifications and pass a background check, medical exam and drug screening prior to appointment
• Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
• Lateral minimum 3 years full-time career paid experience
Schooling Prior and Post Hiring: In addition to a High School diploma or equivalent, post-high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred and will be considered.
Department Information: Umatilla County Fire District #1 is a combination Fire District in rural Eastern Oregon. UCFD#1 employs 39-line career firefighters, 6 Administrative Chief Officers, a Community Paramedic, Recruitment and Retention/PIO specialist, ambulance billing specialist and a office manager. We currently staff a Single Role EMS ambulance 24 hours a day. We are a Fire District with a response area of 209 square miles of fire protection to include the cities of Hermiston and Stanfield. The ambulance service area is 620 square miles and also covers the cities of Umatilla, Echo and parts of Morrow County. We provide fire, rescue and advanced life support (ALS) ambulance coverage to a total populations base of approximately 47,000 citizens. We are the largest fire department in this area and we are a key player in the training and support of these smaller departments. In addition to our fire suppression, rescue, and ambulance roles, UCFD#1 provides the regional Oregon State Hazardous Materials team covering an approximate area of 15,300 square miles. Their role is to provide Specialist level response to the region. UCFD#1 is located on the western end of Umatilla County, situated just south of the Columbia River. The area has established itself as a major transportation hub for the rest of the state. We can be found at the intersection of two major highways; Interstate 82 and Interstate 84.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors
Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers:
All non-expunged convictions must be disclosed, and are reviewed in relation to number, severity, date, and other relevant circumstances.
Driving Disqualifiers:
Must posses a current, valid driver’s license that is recognized by the State of Oregon and maintain a driving record insurable by the Districts insurer in order to drive a District vehicle. Applicants may also be eliminated based on their driving record if it does not meet the districts standards. Driving issues that may be considered: Major violations (example: DUI, Hit and Run), numerous moving violations and/or at fault accidents or a combination of the above during the last five years.
Additional Disqualifiers:
· Does not use tobacco products
· Must meet National Fire Protection (NFPA) standards for health and fitness
· The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or the others in the workplace.
· Must app a background check, medical and psychological exams, and drug screen prior to appointment.
