Salary: Motor Carrier Officers receive a starting salary of approximately $54,000 and reach a top salary in six years of over $81,000.

Motor Carrier Officers are fully armed members of the Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. They specialize in commercial vehicles and duties include traffic enforcement, crash investigation, driver and vehicle inspections, criminal interdiction, hazardous material transport, regulatory compliance, weigh station operation, infrastructure protection, as well as general emergency response. Motor Carrier Officer's patrol is self-directed and encourages proactive and independent decision making.

During the training academy recruits receive approximately $4,200 a month with benefits
Officers are eligible to transfer or promote to different posts after completion of the training program.
Most schedules prioritize day shifts, working 1 weekend day a month, and 14 paid holidays off a year.

Job Requirements

Age:
Must be at least 21 years of age by recruit school graduation.

Citizenship Required:
Applicants must be a United States Citizen

High School Grad / GED:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D

Driver's License:
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.

Ability to Read/Speak English:
Applicants must have the ability to read and speak English.

Vision:
Possess 20/20 corrected vision in each eye.

Prior Experience:
~ No degree or law enforcement experience required – pay and benefits while in training ~

Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers
Applicants cannot have a felony conviction or be a suspect in case with the reasonable belief the applicant committed a felony.

Driving Disqualifiers
In the two years prior to the beginning of the selection process for a recruit school, applicants cannot have:

An assessment of eight or more points
Three or more moving violations
Two or more traffic crashes resulting in moving violations or civil infractions

In the four years prior to the beginning of the selection process for a recruit school, applicants cannot have:

A conviction of driving with a suspended or revoked license
A conviction of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including impaired driving
Two or more convictions of reckless driving

Financial Disqualifiers
Applicants must show a pattern of fiscal responsibility.

Additional Disqualifiers
Providing FALSE, MISLEADING, and/or INCOMPLETE information may lead to disqualification in the hiring process, a ban from future employment consideration with the Michigan State Police, or termination if employed.
