Area Information:The Roberts Park Fire Protection District operates two stations and responds to approximately 4800 calls each year. The district staffs a truck company, engine, two ALS ambulances, and a battalion chief each day.

Academy Certifications:Not required. Candidates must obtain the Basic Operations Firefighter certification prior to the end of probation. Candidates will be sent to the fire academy if they do not possess a Basic Operations Firefighter or Firefighter II certification.
Prior Experience:Not required. District will credit candidates for up to 5 years of prior full-time employment at a municipal fire department or fire protection district (immediate prior employer only). Candidates with previous full-time experience will start at the equivalent salary step immediately and time off step following probation.
Necessary Certifications:IDPH Paramedic License (at time of hire)CPAT card with ladder climb (at time of hire) High School Diploma or Equivalent
Additional Requirements:Candidate must be 21-35 years of age at the time of hire unless exempted by statute (65ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.3). Candidate must have the ability to pass a criminal background check, polygraph, psychological, and medical examinations.
Hiring Process:Application: Completed application and required documents submitted thru National Testing Network (NTN). Written Examination (85% of total score): Successful completion of the exam through National Testing Network Preliminary Eligibility Register: Candidates shall be placed on the preliminary register in order as determined by their written test scores. Oral Interview (15% of total score): Oral interviews will be held. Candidates will be notified of the date and time of their interview after the written exam. Final Eligibility Register: The final eligibility register will be posted after the oral interview and application of all preference points allowed by the Fire Commission. Candidates receiving conditional offers of employment will be required to pass a background check, polygraph examination, psychological examination, and medical examination including drug screening.
