JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, FRANKLIN COUNTY, OHIO
Jefferson Township, Franklin County, Ohio is looking for full-time firefighter-paramedics and part-time firefighter EMT/paramedics. Planning three full-time positions as soon as practical, with another three positions before the end of the year. Candidates must have their paramedic certification to apply for a full-time position.
Lateral Transfers will be considered and are subject to provisions stated in the Jefferson Township and Jefferson Township Firefighters IAFF Local 4038 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Candidates must complete the National Testing Network (NTN) FireTEAM exam with a minimum score of 70% and the Personal History Questions (PHQ) by 22 September 2025. It is not required to possess a valid Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) or Firefighter Mile certificate unless you cannot attend the Physical Agility Test provided by Jefferson Township. If you're unable to attend, we will accept the CPAT or Firefighter Mile certificate. Your NTN FireTEAM exam score, PHQ, and CPAT/Firefighter Mile certificate must all be current and within 9 months of this dated posting.

· Practice Physical Agility Test: 27 September 2025, at the same location

Department Overview: The Jefferson Township Fire Department operates one fire station and serves a population in excess of 16,000. The Jefferson Township Fire Department provides the community with advanced life support – emergency medical services, all-hazards emergency response and fire prevention services. The Jefferson Township Fire Department responds to more than 2,000 emergency calls annually. Jefferson Township is classified by the Insurance Services Office with a Class 2 ISO rating. Our staff is highly trained, with the department logging more than 4,000 hours of training annually.
Township Information: Jefferson Township is located in Northeastern Franklin County, Ohio. The community is suburban in nature. Our service area is approximately 16 square miles, which includes Jefferson Township and portions of Reynoldsburg, Gahanna, and the City of Columbus.

Salary Details
Lateral Transfers - Firefighters with prior service working as a full-time certified paramedic for other public entities will receive additional credit for such service for the purpose of determining the Firefighter’s wage step upon appointment. Lateral Transfers will be given a pay step credit for every two years of full-time service.
Entry Level - Original appointment at the rank of Firefighter shall be made at the first Step. Advancement from the original appointment to the next succeeding step shall be made after twelve (12) months of continuous active service, and remaining steps shall be by one (1) year intervals of continuous active service.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:All new employees shall serve a probationary period of one year, commencing with their first day of employment. The probationary period provides an opportunity for the Fire Department to observe and assess an employee’s work and to train and aid the employee in adjusting to a new position. This period allows the Fire Department to determine whether or not to grant the employee permanent status in that position.WORK SCHEDULE:The work schedule for full-time is 24 hours on-duty/ 48 hours off-duty.
