Position Title: Telecommunicator

The City of Toledo is currently hiring for the position of Telecommunicator. All candidates must complete Ecomm National Testing by June 15, 2021.

Salary Information: $19.77 - $23.45 per hour

Benefit Information:

Overtime – 1 ½ times the hourly rate of pay for hours worked in excess of scheduled hours or excess 40 hours in a week.

Comp Time – ability to accrue comp time instead of overtime. Comp bank cannot exceed 100 hours.
Certification Pay - $150 per month for Intermediate Certification; $175 for Advanced Certificate.
Longevity Pay – 1% of monthly wage after 5 years of service; 1.5% after 10 years of service
Holidays – 10 hours of time off per full calendar month of employment, instead of holidays
Vacation – Vacation accrued by below rates. Vacation capped at 225 hours

1-4 years = 8 hours per month

5-9 years = 10 hours per month

10-15 years = 12 hours per month

16-20 years = 14 hours per month

21-more = 15 hours per month

Health Insurance – Employee pays 10% of combined insurance premiums. The city pays 90%
PERS Retirement – Paid by the City.
Sick Leave – 8 hours per calendar month

Valid OREGON State Driver's License: Yes

College: Not necessary

Academy Certification: Must obtain Basic Telecommunicators Certificate within one year of employment

Prior Experience: Not necessary

Necessary Certifications : Must obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 1 year of employment.

Hiring Process: NTN testing, Oral Board, Background Investigation, Chief’s Interview, Conditional Job Offer, Psychological Exam, and Health Exam.

Working Conditions :

The Toledo Police Department is a 24 hour 7 day a week dispatch center. Applicants must be able to work shift work which may include nights and weekends.
This position requires regularly adaptive and flexible responses due to changing priorities, need to juggle timeframes, and need to meet fluctuating deadlines. Interruptions to normal schedules occur and response to new situations is needed regularly. Contacts with others can frequently include difficult or disagreeable people.
This position requires minimal physical effort such as light lifting, carrying or movement, etc. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, grasp, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to kneel and crouch. Physical capability involves use of office or equipment where some agility and hand eye coordination are needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Primary Responsibilities :

Operate a multi-line telephone console system, alerting system, and TDD system for the deaf and hearing-impaired.
Translate information to the appropriate codes.
Determine and assign the level of priority of the call and enter the data into a computer-aided dispatch system for radio dispatch purposes.
Perform emergency medical dispatch and crisis intervention services.
Ask vital questions and provide pre-arrival instructions for emergency medical calls.
Monitor and operate a radio console and computer equipment.
Receive and respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services and complaints.
Ask questions to interpret, analyze and anticipate the caller’s situation as to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch emergency services, or refer callers to other agencies.
Dispatch and coordinate the responses of public safety agencies.
Identify appropriate number and type of equipment or apparatus to dispatch.
Enters and modifies information into local, state and national computer databases.
Monitor and respond to a variety of technical systems and alarms.
