Winter Haven Police Department is currently hiring for Community Service Officer. All candidates must be invited to complete the FrontLine National exam as well as the Physical Ability Test (PAT) through National Testing Network.
All candidates must also complete the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and the Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA) located in your candidate profile on NTN.

Salary & Benefits: $14.13 per hour minimum with an annual Step for Performance Pay Plan. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs non-emergency police services and a variety of communication service activities. Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and in all weather conditions. This position is a non-sworn position and the individual does not have arrest powers. Operates a police service vehicle to perform duties. Operates a police radio to maintain constant communication with the communication center. Responds to nonviolent, non-emergency criminal incidents and police calls where there is no suspect present and a written police report may be required; interviews witnesses and victims to ascertain information relative to the incident; completes a detailed written report of the account. Assists with vehicle crashes having no injuries. Completes faulty equipment checks on motor vehicles that were previously cited as containing faulty or unsafe equipment. Assists with removing highway obstructions by other directing vehicular or pedestrian traffic around the obstruction or by having the obstruction removed in compliance with departmental regulations. Checks on abandoned vehicles; uses the police radio to verbally communicate the identifying numbers of the vehicle to the communications center to identify the other of the vehicle and to ascertain the reason the vehicle is abandoned. Provides traffic assistance; stands in the roadway and uses hand and whistle signals to direct traffic. Provides parking enforcement; issues citations for the violations. Assists with fingerprinting requests. Records and processes found property; operates and uses technical identification equipment to identify items of evidentiary value; completes and prepares handwritten and/or typed reports of property found. Investigates animal complains and violations of City ordinances; makes personal contact with violators; explains and interprets ordinances and laws; issues vernal warnings or written citations for violations. Conducts vacation patrols and maintains a written record. Assists in crime prevention programs, general information concerning Police Department services, and working with the youth within the community. With additional training may serve as a Field Training Officer for newly hired Community Service Officers; provides supervision and instruction, both hands on and classroom; critiques trainee's performance and prepares written daily evaluations of same. Performs various other law enforcement duties not requiring sworn member as designated by a supervisor.
