The Tiffin Police Department is currently building an ongoing eligibility list for Police Officer. All candidates must complete the FrontLine National Exam through National Testing Network.

Salary Information: Salary is based upon negotiations with the Ohio Police Benevolent Association (OPBA) Starting Year one in 2019 is $21.82 and goes to $27.58 through step increases.

Department Overview:
Established in 1851, the Tiffin Police Department responds to approximately 13,000 - 15, 000 calls for service per year. Specialized units include: Drug Task Force, K9, Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, Detective Division, SRO. The Tiffin Police Department is an agency with 31 full time sworn personnel. Tiffin PD also keeps its officers supplied with the best equipment and vehicles and training. Tiffin Police is an Ohio Collaborative Certified Agency and utilizes Lexipol for operational policies & procedures.
Area Information: The City of Tiffin is located in Seneca County and is the county seat. Two private universities lie within the city limits. Lake Erie is 50 minutes away, Toledo is approximately 50 minutes, Cleveland is an hour and 15 minutes and Columbus is an hour and 45 minutes. The city has an excellent school system as well as recreational programs and opportunities with many parks as well as a great developing downtown.

Academy Certification: Current OPOTA Peace Officer Certificate OR be currently seated in a police academy with a letter from your Academy Commander stating you are on track to graduate.

Veteran' Preference: All applicants for original appointment who are veterans of military service, and a resident of Ohio, as described in ORC 124.23, may file with the Commission a certificate of military service or honorable discharge whereupon they shall receive additional credit of twenty percent (20%) of their total grade given in the regular examination, provided that they have received a passing grade. Such requests for veteran’s credit must be submitted to the Commission along with the application for examination and must, at that time, be accompanied by proof of military service as described above. Veteran’s credit request after the final date for test application will not be honored. Applicants eligible for veteran’s credit on original appointment examination shall receive a priority in ranking over non-veterans who obtain an identical grade.
Performance Responsibilities: Under general supervision, must perform various duties to protect and serve the general public; enforce and uphold the laws set forth by the Constitution of the United States, the State of Ohio, and the Charter of the City of Tiffin; perform related duties as assigned.

It can be picked up at the municipal police building or downloaded at: http://tiffinohio.gov/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/2018-Police-Application.pdf: WRITTEN EXAM: Completion of the National Testing Network (NTN) exam with a minimum passing score of 70%. The City requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. The PHQ must be completed by the closing date or you may not be considered further in the process. PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAM: Only candidates who have passed the written exam will be eligible to continue and will be contacted with time, date and location to take the Fitness-For-Duty Examination. The fitness-for-duty examination will be administered to all police officers and is graded as pass/fail. Failure is NOT completing all the tasks within the 5 minute 58 second time limit or not completing each task as directed. The events of the fitness-for-duty examination will be performed in a continuous fashion and a candidate’s time will begin with the first event and will end with the final event.
