CPSO works with our university partners to ensure that Portland State University is a safe place. Our Services include Campus Police, Public Safety, Campus Dispatch, Access Control, and Clery.
City Information: Portland, Multnomah County, Downtown Area
Position Summary: The Campus Dispatcher maintains two-way radio contact with campus police and public safety officers, monitors campus alarms, and operates the telephones and communications equipment in a communications center of a State educational facility. Duties are usually performed in a normal work setting.
Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency.
*One year experience with high level of public contact which included answering questions, and gathering and relaying information to others.
*Computer keyboarding utilizing databases to input and/or retrieve information.
*No criminal record (a background investigation will be conducted prior to appointment).
*Must meet Oregon State Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Academy (DPSST) standards for acceptance to training (including minimum age of 21)
*Must successfully complete any required dispatch/telecommunicator training prior to completion of trial service, including attending DPSST Basic Telecommunicator Academy and obtaining a DPSST Telecommunicator Certification; and must be able to become certified by Law Enforcement Data System and RegJIN system.
*Successfully pass a Medical Screening.
*Complete the Emergency Communications (ECOMM) written test from National Testing Network and submit scores directly to Portland State University.

Hiring Process: The Portland State University Campus Dispatcher hiring process is extensive. The application to hire process is as follows:
Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: No felony convictions in Oregon or any other jurisdiction
Driving Disqualifiers: Must have an acceptable driving record and the ability to obtain a valid driver's license.
Drug Use Disqualifiers: No violation of any law involving controlled substances.
Working Conditions: Portland State University Campus Dispatcher must be able to work a variety of shifts, including but not limited to mornings, afternoon, and nights. Work any day of the week, including but not limited to weekends and holidays. Dispatchers work in an open office environment and may be required to respond after normal hours to emergencies and report to work for regularly assigned shifts during campus closures. Some overtime may be required.
