The Trenton Police Department is currently seeking candidates for the position of Emergency Services Dispatcher (ESD). Entry-level positions will be filled by testing through the National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates must complete the Ecomm National Exam found at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs and also the application packet. Experienced applicants with one year or more experience as full-time ESDs do not need to take the NTN test and may apply as lateral entry candidates. Lateral entry candidates must submit a résumé with their application packets.
Application packets are available at the Trenton Police Department website and from the City of Trenton Administrative offices and must be completed and submitted no later than 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 17th, 2024, to be considered. Salary Information: Full-Time: Currently $51,937 - $62,004 annually, with the top-out salary being $65,998 in January of 2025. A signing bonus may be negotiable for well-qualified, experienced candidates.
Part-Time: Currently $18.00-$24.09 per hour.
Benefits Information: Comprehensive benefits package. All equipment and initial uniform items are provided. $500 yearly uniform allowance (full-time only).

Department Overview: The City of Trenton Communications Center dispatches emergency first responders for police, fire, and EMS services and is the after-hours contact for all City departments.
Area Information: The City of Trenton covers over 5 square miles in Butler County, Ohio, and is located between Middletown and Hamilton on State Route 73, approximately 20 minutes from Miami University’s Oxford campus.

Job Description – Emergency Services Dispatcher:
· Serves as the first point of contact for citizens entering the police station.
· Receives and transmits radio communications, e.g., dispatches police, fire, and life squad units to the geographic location of a service request, dispatches the proper number of units and equipment, and coordinates backup support with other jurisdictions.
· Receives emergency and non-emergency requests from service agencies and the public and obtains and records pertinent information.
· Maintains records on various forms and logs and in various manners, to computer entries and hard copies.
· Operates various office-type equipment, both generally and specifically related to the ESD position.
· Receives and verifies vehicle license and registration information.
· Performs queries, enters, clears, and cancels entries in multiple local, state, and national databases and report management systems.
· Prepares and maintains all LEADS/NCIC correspondence, entries, deletions, warrant transactions (certifications), and training sessions.
· Receives and disseminates information to other agencies.
· Receives and accurately processes monies for bonds, impounds, and public records as necessary.
· Maintains visual observation of persons in the department’s holding cell, completes related reports as required, and downloads videos to case files as required.
· Notarizes forms and documents as necessary.
· Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
· Performs other related work as required and/or as assigned by a supervisor.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
· LEADS and CCH certification must be obtained within the first three (3) months.
· State of Ohio Notary must be obtained during the first six (6) months.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Ability to work independently and be solely responsible for the dispatching function while on duty.
· Ability to coordinate and perform multiple tasks with accuracy and speed under pressure and in, at times, life-and-death situations.
· This position requires prior knowledge of or the ability to learn:
º FCC rules and regulations;
º Local RMS, LEADS/NCIC computer operations;
º Public safety radio dispatching procedures;
º 911 terminal operating procedures;
º Police department policies and procedures;
º General safety practices and procedures;
º Public relations;
º Records management; and
º Program tasks, equipment, material, and procedures.
· This position requires prior skill in or the ability to learn the operation of:
º Multi-band base radio;
º LEADS computer terminal;
º Windows-based computer system;
º Police department reporting system;
º City audio and video recording systems;
º City telephones system; and
º Various office equipment, e.g., copier, fax.
· Demonstrated ability to speak clearly and effectively.
· Ability to communicate well with others both orally and in writing.
· Good general intelligence and emotional stability.
· Willingness and ability to interact and cooperate with administrators, police officers, fire and EMS staff, and the general public.
· Basic computer literacy.
· Ability to operate a Windows-based computer system using standard word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
· Ability to use the internet for applications appropriate to assigned duties, e.g., maps.
· Ability to troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a quick, efficient, and safe manner.
· Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information.
· Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
· Must be able to continually pass random drug and alcohol testing.
Physical/Mental Abilities and Work Environment
Work is performed solely in a normal, climate-controlled, office-type environment with the opportunity to sit and stand as needed. Requires 24/7 scheduling availability – may require work in excess of 40 hours as necessary.
