Champaign Fire Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for Probationary Firefighter. The testing period will begin July 22nd, 2020, and must be completed by October 30th, 2020.

This department requires scanned document uploads of the signed attestation form and your Driver's License and High School Diploma or GED certificate. After you create your account, and schedule and pay for testing, you will be able to upload your scanned documents on your account home page.
A testing fee waiver may be provided to candidates who provide proof of financial hardship. Please download and complete the fee waiver form which can be found here. Then scan and submit the form along with your proof of hardship to email@example.com. Please initiate this process early. The waiver review process may take up to two weeks and does not exempt candidates from meeting the October 2, 2020 testing deadline. NOTE: the application fee waiver decision must be made PRIOR to scheduling the FireTEAM exam; it cannot be applied retroactively

Salary Information: $64,267 starting; $67,552 after one year
Department Information: The Champaign Fire Department is a full-service career department comprised of more than 100 sworn firefighters covering a jurisdiction of 20 square miles from six stations. The Department enjoys an ISO classification of Class One and serves more than 87,000 residents plus an additional 40,000 university students, responding to over 8,000 calls annually covering fire, rescue, hazardous materials, medical and large-scale incidents. Firefighters respond to Champaign neighborhoods from six strategically-located fire stations, working a shift rotation of 24 hours on and 48 hours off. Age: Candidates may not be older than 35 by the date of the written examination unless otherwise exempt by state statute. Candidates must be 21 years old by date of hire.
US Citizen: Be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S. (Must meet USCIS Form I-9 at time of hire)
High School Grad/GED: High school diploma or equivalent
Academy Certification: If hired, must be certified as a Firefighter II or Basic Firefighter by the State of Illinois by the end of probation.
Valid Drivers License: Required
Necessary Certifications: Proof of completion of the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) including Ladder Climb Test with any licensed agency issued no more than 12 months prior to December 18, 2020. Must be uploaded through the NTN candidate account by December 18, 2020.

If hired, must be certified as Licensed Illinois or National EMT Basic by the end of probation.
Hiring Process: Oral Board Interviews: Candidates who pass the written examination will be invited to participate in an oral board interview. Oral board interviews will be held November 4 and 5, 2020 at ILEAS, 1701 E Main St, Urbana, IL. Candidates will be assigned an interview date/time after successfully passing the written examination. Interviews will be recorded and additional precautions will be implemented to comply with social distancing and other safety guidelines.

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: No felony convictions and no misdemeanors related to fire/arson.
