Position Title: Public Safety Dispatcher Clerk
Salary Information: $47,361.60- $57,595.20 Annual Salary with a 4% increase effective 07/01/2022.
DEFINITION: Under general supervision, transmits and receives emergency and routine communications via telecommunication and radio equipment; performs a variety of clerical duties; and perform related work as required.
In addition to your Salary, the City of Santa Paula offers you an extensive package, including: Retirement: 2.7% at 57 for new CalPERS members. 3% at 50 for existing "classic" CalPERS members with less than a six month break in service from another CalPERS agency.All New Members (as defined by PEPRA) hired by the City on or after January 1, 2013 in addition to paying the full employee contribution, shall contribute one percent (1%) of their compensation towards the employers contribution to CalPERS. All Classic Members (as defined by PEPRA) in addition to paying the full member contribution, shall contribute 3% of their compensation towards the employers contribution to CAlPERS.Cafeteria Plan: The City currently contributes up to $1,458.90 a month towards a cafeteria plan, which need to be used towards the premiums of health, dental and vision insurance. Those opting out are eligible.Long Term Disability Insurance: The City offer employer paid long term disability insurance.Annual Leave: 96 hours of annual vacation leave for the first five years of employment; 96 hours of annual sick leave; 11 paid holidays and 1 floating holiday per year.Flexible Spending Arrangements (FSA): Medical and dependent care reimbursement account is available.Deferred Compensation Program: Deferred Contribution Plan (457 plan) is available.Tuition Reimbursement: Employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement up to $2500 per fiscal year for job related or professional development courses.Physical Fitness and Wellness Program: With proof of annual payment of gym membership, the City shall reimburse the annual sum for the payment of the membership fees for a physical fitness program available to unit employees at qualified health clubs previously approved by the City Manager. The amount shall not exceed the actual membership fee paid up to $300.00 per unit employee.Life Insurance: The City provides group term life insurance coverage up to $100,000.00 for each employee.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: On rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, communicates city police and fire personnel, ambulance services, and other emergency and non emergency agencies; cooperatively handles citizen inquiries at public counter and over telephone; maintains complete and detailed records of all communications and activities; maintains files of correspondence, identifications, suspects, prisoners' records, departmental reports and other matters pertaining to departmental activities and operations; and other work as required.
Essential Job Functions: Transmits and receives messages via telecommunication and radio equipment, requiring clear oral communication and auditory capability; operates office equipment, including computers, requiring hand and finger dexterity; types various reports, logs and records; female dispatchers may on occasion search female suspects, requiring full upper body ambulatory capability, including arm and shoulder rotation and full neck movement.
Qualifications: Successfully completion of P.O.S.T. communications/dispatcher academy within one year of appointment. Ability to speak Spanish desirable.Knowledge and Abilities:: Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment;
knowledge of policies, rules, instructions, laws and ordinances pertaining to police work.Ability to type accurately, not less than 30 net words per minute; ability to exercise independent judgment, largely on own initiative; ability to learn rules regarding radio transmission in a police department; ability to utilize standard broadcasting procedures and equipment; ability to operate a telecommunications radio and computer equipment; ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
