The City of Troy is currently building an ongoing eligibility list for Entry Level Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic. Salary: $48,991.28 for entry level Firefighter/EMT and $54,434.75 for entry level Firefighter-Paramedic and after three years of service as a Firefighter-Paramedic salary will increase to $76,867.23
Residency: To ensure adequate response times to emergencies and disasters, firefighter/EMT or firefighter-paramedics, as a condition of employment, must reside in Miami, Darke, Shelby, Champaign, Clark or Montgomery counties.

High School Grad/GED: Yes
Valid OHIO State Driver's License: Yes and an acceptable driving record
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Academy Certification: State of Ohio Certified Firefighter II/EMT and/or Firefighter II-Paramedic Certification card
Written Examination: Applicants must receive a passing grade of 70% or better on the firefighter/EMT or firefighter-paramedic written examination. An applicant who receives a grade below 70% is not eligible for hire.

Veteran’s Credit: An applicant who is a veteran of U.S. military service (as defined by Ohio law) and who receives a passing grade on the written examination (70% or above) is eligible for an additional credit of 20% of the applicant’s total grade, provided the applicant timely files a DD 214 certificate showing that the applicant was honorably discharged or separated under honorable conditions. Applicants who receive a veteran’s credit have priority in ranking over non-veterans who obtain an identical grade.
Applicants claiming a veteran’s credit must file a copy of their DD214 with the Human Resources Department, City Hall, 100 South Market Street, Troy OH 45373 by the closing of the application period. Applicants who fail for any reason to timely file their DD214 will not receive a veteran’s credit.
