Deep Roots. Short Commutes. The City of Wheat Ridge embodies the deep roots of a city with a rich history and a strong sense of community. Its central location provides short commutes to major interstate highways, the majestic Rocky Mountains, and the amenities of the large metropolitan city of Denver, Colorado. Our community encompasses 9.5 square miles and is home to more than 31,000 citizens.
The City of Wheat Ridge Police Department has 78 sworn officers and 35 civilian personnel commanded by the Chief of Police, serving a resident community of approximately 31,000. The community is experiencing significant redevelopment opportunities, as well as the development of two commercial areas within the city. The community is home to a large regional hospital complex, SCL Health Lutheran. The department includes two divisions, Patrol Operations and Support Services, each commanded by a Division Chief. The department has three commander positions, two commanders in Patrol Operations and one commander in the Investigations Bureau.
Additional Requirements:: High School Diploma or GED with some college. Preferred: Two (2) years (60 semester or 90 quarter hours) of college credits from an accredited college or university. ~~OR~~At least four (4) years of military service, including National Guard, Reservist or Coast Guard and/or honorable discharge or considered to be in good standing.~~OR~~Any combination of the two listed above. Note: If you attach "unofficial" transcripts, you will be expected to provide "official" transcripts at the time of the oral board. Must attach DD-214 to application to demonstrate military service. Successful candidates will also demonstrate the values of Integrity, Respect, Initiative, Courage, and Perseverance. The successful candidate should also demonstrate the capacity to be a strategic thinker, an understanding of diversity, strong leadership skills, and problem solving skills.
