Job Overview: Public Safety Officers (PSO) are assigned to our patrol division. The Patrol Division is responsible for responding to calls for service, citizen’s complaints, traffic enforcement, as well as, providing services to supplement the law enforcement operations of the agency. This position is under the direction and supervision of their respective Shift Supervisor and the Commander of the Patrol Division and is in a classified position as a sworn Deputy Sheriff.The Public Safety Officer (PSO) is a cross-trained position between law enforcement, fire and emergency medical service. The applicant is required to have his/her Ohio Peace Officer Certification and the Basic Emergency Medical Technician and Ohio Volunteer Firefighter is paid for by the Union County Sheriff’s Office. The Public Safety Officer will act as a First Responder when arriving on the scene prior to fire and EMS personnel, as well as performing law enforcement functions under the community oriented policing concept. The Public Safety Officer will patrol and work in an assigned area on a regular basis in partnership with the community to identify and prevent problems in addition to assisting the community with emergency situations. This approach will be accomplished by providing the citizens of the assigned area personalized police services as well as pro-active roblem solving. The Public Safety Officer will be trained and equipped to deliver medical and fire suppression steps until fire and emergency medical personnel arrive.
