Nature of Work: This is a general firefighting work combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires and maintaining fire department equipment and quarters.
Classification Standards: Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under limited supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of supervisory responsibility and from lower classes by its emphasis on firefighting.

Department Information: Gainesville Fire Rescue is a full service department that responds to EMS, Fire, HazMat, Technical Rescue, swat medic, and Aircraft Firefighting Emergencies.
GFR is an accredited department by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. GFR has 9 Stations including 1 Airport Firefighting Station; Approximately 200 Personnel; including 21 Support-Administrative Personnel; 6 Engines, 2 towers, 2 Quints, 1 HazMat Unit, 2 medium Squads, 2 District Chiefs, 1 Air and Light Truck, 2 Aircraft Firefighting units. Operates with an automatic aid agreement with Alachua County for closest unit response in an extended area around the City limits.
