Job Classification: Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) - Entry Level and Lateral Candidates
The Linn County Sheriff's Office is currently recruiting for Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) for both Entry Level and Lateral transfer candidates. The Sheriff’s Office is building an ongoing eligibility list for current and future positions.
All candidates must complete the ORPAT and REACT tests for this position. ORPAT is scheduled separately from the NTN home page. You must schedule both a REACT and ORPAT test for this position. Testing for both REACT and ORPAT is available at the Brooklake campus of Chemeketa Community College.
(For Out-of-State Applicants): An application may be accepted without an ORPAT score. However, an ORPAT score with NTN is required to move forward in the hiring process.
Candidates who have completed both the ORPAT and REACT tests, must go to NEOGOV.com or http://agency.governmentjobs.com/linnsheriff/default.cfm and apply for the Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) position.
Lateral applications are also being accepted. Please make note of your previous experience in your application, and answer the Lateral Applicant question on the NEOGOV application accordingly. For lateral hires, salary compensation will be based on current experience level and pay (to be determined).
Salary Information: From $4,304 up to $5,420 per month (base salary)
Bilingual Pay: Employees who are fluent in Spanish (and possibly Russian and/or American Sign Language) and use these skills while on duty will receive an additional 5% per month after passing a Standardized Language Fluency test administered by Linn County. Bilingual Pay is awarded at the discretion of the Sheriff.
*****For example, a Deputy Sheriff with 15 years at Linn County, topped-out on the salary scale with full-family health benefits and incentive pay (Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Certification, Bilingual) receives a total annual package of approximately $129,535.*****

Background Check: Finalists for this position will be subject to an extensive background investigation. Some issues that might cause an applicant to be withheld from further consideration include, but are not limited to the following:
Driving Disqualifiers: Must be a competent and licensed operator of vehicles in the State of Oregon.
Drug Use Disqualifiers: No arrests or convictions for any felony or any misdemeanor crimes involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery, or manufacturing of a controlled substance, narcotic or dangerous drug.
Additional Disqualifiers: Must pass a thorough background investigation, psychological exam, medical exam including drug screen, and integrity interview that establishes strong moral character. Any conduct that could compromise the integrity of the employee, other employees, the Sheriff’s Office or the County will be closely evaluated. Failure to read and follow directions may also disqualify candidates.
The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.
