Salary Information: $5,297- $6,622 monthly

Department Information: Oak Harbor Fire Department is a combination department. Oak Harbor Fire Department is a municipal fire department and provides a variety of services including fire suppression, emergency medical service, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, fire code enforcement, fire investigation service and public safety education. OHFD has one station staffed 24 hours. Paid staffing consists of a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, training Captain, three shift Captains, one Lieutenant, four Firefighter/EMT’s, and an administrative assistant. There are approximately 42 Paid-on-Call Firefighters, including four Captains.

Vision: Meet the current minimum LEOFF II Firefighter Medical Standards
Driving: Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license with a CDL endorsement or current EVIP certification
Academy Certification: IFSAC Firefighter 1 and WA State EMT
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors: Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers
Candidates must submit to a background and criminal history check. Disqualifiers included having been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, has been discharged from the armed forces under dishonorable conditions, and other disqualifiers as determined by the City of Oak Harbor Civil Service rules.
Candidates must submit to a check of his/her driving records. Applicants with poor driving records, as determined by the city, may be disqualified for employment with the City in positions requiring driving.
Drug Use Disqualifiers
A urine sample will be screened for the following drugs: Amphetamines, Cannabinoids, Cocaine, Opiates, Phencyclidine. If the specimen test positive for cocaine, and/or PCP, the applicant will not be considered further for employment and an offer of employment will be withdrawn. Tests that show positive for opiates, amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, THC, metaqualone and/or methadone will result in the applicant being immediately rejected unless those drugs can be verified as legally prescribed by the applicants physician.
Dismissed for cause from former fire departments
OHFD Service Credit: An additional 5% credit will shall be added to the final score of current OHFD Paid-On-Call members in good standing with a minimum of two (2) years experience with Oak Harbor Fire Department.
Veteran’s Preference: Applicants who meet the criteria of RCW 41.04.005, as amended, and requesting Veteran’s Preference Points will be required to attach a copy of their DD-214 to the employment application.
