Villages Fire Rescue is now interviewing for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic
National Testing Network (NTN) FireTEAM and a valid CPAT are required for this position. Please direct all questions to NTN Customer Support. Do not call the department directly. Candidates must fill out the NTN application as part of the testing process.
Salary Information: Starting $17.58 hr ($51,192 (Annually)

Department Information:The Villages Fire Rescue was established in 1999 to protect the residents of The Villages which was a small retirement community in Northern Sumter County and Northwest Lake County. The department consisted of one fire station, nine firefighters, and one fire chief.
Today, the Villages Fire Rescue has the honor of serving the world’s largest retirement community, and the fastest growing community in the United States. The department’s coverage area exceeds 90 square miles with over 130,000 residents in three counties (Lake, Sumter, Marion) and four cities (Lady Lake,Wildwood, Leesburg, and Fruitland Park). Although predominately a retirement community the Villages has three family communities, an A+ charter school system (pre-K- 12 th grade) and protects a population demographic that spans all ages.
Department Profile:
The department is a full-service fire-rescue department operating out of nine stations which are strategically located to ensure a rapid response to emergencies.
Services Provided: Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Response, High Angle Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Collapse Rescue, Vehicle Machinery Rescue (extrication), Structural Collapse Rescue, Water Rescue, Our Technical Rescue Team is a part of Florida’s USAR system and is a Type 1 (Heavy) TRT team (FL-TRT-424), Operations Level Hazardous Materials Response, Fire Prevention (including Public Education Programs), and a Smoke Detector Battery Change Program.
The Villages Fire Rescue responded to over 24,000 calls in 2020. Fifty-five (55) percent of these calls were for medical emergencies and the other forty-five (45) percent were fire and service related calls.
Insurance Service Organization Public Protection Class:The Villages Fire Rescue is proud to have an ISO rating of 2. This is a nationally recognized standard that is based on extensive criteria that evaluates a fire department’s ability to protect its citizens and property. ISO is a third party independent agency that evaluates the fire department, water department and communications systems. It rates the results on a national scale from one to ten (one being the best and highest). According to ISO, its Public Protection Classification Program (PPC) plays an important role in the underwriting process with insurance companies. Most U.S. insurers report that the PPC information is used in their decision-making process when deciding what business to cover, what coverage’s to offer or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.
The Villages Fire Rescue’s rating of 2 is rare among American fire departments with only 2 percent of fire departments in the country obtaining this level.
