Position Title: FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC
The City of Fountain Valley is currently accepting applications for Firefighter/Paramedic. All applicants must complete and submit an employment application by visiting the City’s website at www.fountainvalley.org. All required certifications/licenses MUST be submitted with the completed employment application. All applicants must take the FireTEAM test though the National Testing Network by August 24, 2022. Applicants must provide proof that they have successfully completed a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) or Biddle Physical Ability Test (PAT) by September 18, 2022.
Salary Information: $88,839.54 – $107,985.01 ANNUALLY

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:The Fire Department's duty is to provide the community with outstanding service aimed to safeguard our citizens and property. The 46 dedicated professionals of the Fountain Valley Fire Department strive to deliver high quality paramedic and rescue, fire suppression, fire prevention, public safety and education and emergency preparedness programs to the community. The Fire Department operates from two fire stations staffed by two advanced life support engine companies, one advanced life support truck company and one battalion commander operating 24 hours a day collectively responding annually to approximately 7,000 all-risk emergency responses.
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, ORANGE COUNTY, CA: We are minutes from points of interest such as Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, the beach, and world class shopping. Major employers include Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Orange Coast Memorial Hospital, Kingston Technology, and Hyundai Motor America.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Academy Graduate
Candidates may apply for the Firefighter Paramedic position if they have graduated from a California State Board of Fire Service Approved fire Academy or equivalent Fire Academy or have their California State Certified Firefighter I AND possess a Paramedic License.
Academy Graduate/Attending Paramedic School
Candidates may apply for the Firefighter Paramedic position if they have graduated from a California State Board of Fire Service Approved Fire Academy AND are currently in a field internship portion of a California State Licensed Paramedic School and will possess a Paramedic License by appointment date.
High School graduation or equivalent or possession of a General Education Development Test (GED) certificate is required.
Previous experience working as a full-time paid firefighter in a municipal Fire Department is highly desirable.

WRITTEN EXAM: (Weighted 15%) All applicants must take the FireTEAM test though the NTN by August 24, 2022. Candidates are required to pay a fee to NTN to take the FireTeam exam. You may visit the NTN website at https://www.nationaltestingnetwork.com for more information regarding test dates/test sites. NTN scores are considered valid with the City of Fountain Valley if obtained within the dates of August 24, 2021 – August 24, 2022.
ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weighted 60%) Will evaluate the candidate's experience, training, and personal qualifications that are essential for successful performance on the job.
PARAMEDIC SKILLS ASSESSMENT: (Weighted 25%) Will evaluate the candidate’s knowledge of pre-hospital medicine as it relates to the National Registry standard.
