The Allegheny County Jail is currently establishing a Correctional Officer hiring list! All candidates must take the REACT exam through National Testing Network to be considered further in the hiring process. Allegheny County wants testing opportunities to be accessible for all interested candidates. Test fees may be may waived for candidates who meet financial hardship eligibility criteria. The department requires the candidate Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA). You can access this through your candidate account. NTN suggests completing the PSSA as soon as possible so there is not a delay in your process.
All candidates who achieve a qualifying score on the REACT exam will be invited to take the Physical Agility Test.
Salary Information: $21.5744 per hour; $22.0058 per hour effective 7/1/21

Valid PENNSYLVANIA Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver’s license to continue in the selection process
Additional Requirements: Act 33/34 Clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant.
Hiring Process: In addition to REACT, candidates must successfully pass a physical agility test, panel interview, background check, psychological examination, drug test, medical testing, and real estate tax status verification. Upon employment, cadets must undergo and successfully complete the Allegheny County Jail Training Academy.
