Job Classification: Entry Level Jail Deputy (Express)
**Express Corrections Exam only. Express Correction Exam scores are not transferrable to other departments.**
Salary Information: $77,729.60 Annually (Pay commensurate with certification, experience & training).
*Attention: “Out of Area” applicants who relocate to our county, may be eligible for relocation reimbursement, up to $7,000, upon hire*

We will accept applications on a continuous basis and actively hire four (4) times per year: January, April, July, October. Hire date is dependent on when applications are received, and successful completion of our hiring process which WILL include the
NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK (NTN) CORRECTIONS –“REACT” test OR proof of a bachelor's degree.
Lateral applications will be processed on a case-by-case basis and hire dates may differ from those above and WILL NOT have to complete the NTN test.

To qualify as a Jail Lateral, candidates must possess a Basic Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training “DPSST” certification OR other equivalent local, state, or federal certification as a Corrections Officer or Jail Deputy; Have completed a Field Training Program; Have at least one year of full-time equivalent (2080 hours) work experience as a certified law enforcement professional. Completion of required work experience must not have occurred greater than 12 months prior to the date of application submission.
Lateral applicants must provide a copy of their current Law Enforcement Certification and resume at time of application.

Jail Recruit Deputy applicants must also take the NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK (NTN) CORRECTIONS-“REACT” test OR proof of a bachelor's degree.
Jail Recruit Deputy applicants are responsible for contacting NTN and arranging for their own testing.

Physical Abilities Test (PAT):
Washington County Sheriff’s Office accepts all official PAT scores and does not limit its applicants to the Oregon ORPAT. Valid PAT testing from the following sources will be accepted:
- NTN ORPAT, NTN PAT, Washington County hosted PAT testing, PAT or ORPAT scores from other agencies and/or military fitness tests.
- All PAT or physical testing scores submitted must have been completed within twelve (12) months of application.
- If you DO NOT have a PAT score to submit, you will have an opportunity to sign up and take the PAT with us once you have applied.

Jail Recruit Deputies learn basic concepts of corrections, learn, and carry out procedures, rules, and regulations of the jail, including booking, prisoner care, security, and transportation.

Salary Information:
$77,729.60 Annually (Pay commensurate with certification, experience & training).
- Bilingual Pay – $75 per pay period which is paid out every two weeks.
- Incentive Pay – 2% to 8% for a combination of certification levels, training, college education and years of service.
- Premium Pay for various special assignments.
- Overtime and/or compensatory time allowances for overtime, callback, and court appearance.
- Uniform including initial tailoring, duty gear, and a firearm.
- Clothing allowance – $75 per month, if assigned to plainclothes duty full-time.
- Footwear allowance – $150 per year.

Job Requirements
Age:
Must be at least 21 years of age by hire date
Citizenship Required:
Jail Recruit Deputies must obtain U.S. citizenship within 12 months of hire.
High School Grad / GED:
Must be a high school graduate or possess a General Educational Development (GED) certificate of high school equivalency.
Driver's License:
Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record.
Ability to Read/Speak English:
Qualified applicants who are Bilingual/Bicultural are encouraged to apply. *Additional Bilingual Pay – $55 per pay period.
Vision:
Not less than 20/200 in one eye or both eyes, corrected to 20/20 in both eyes combined.
College:
Not required. *Incentive Pay – 2% to 8% for a combination of certification levels, training, college education and years of service.
Academy Certification:
Must be eligible for certification in first aid and CPR.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:
- Domestic Violence Conviction
- Felony Conviction
- Misdemeanor Conviction (reviewed on a case-by-case basis)
- Unacceptable Driving Record (previous five years)
