Department Overview
The Casper Fire-EMS Department currently operates out of 5 Fire Stations spread throughout the City with a current allocated staffing of 24 personnel on duty each day. A minimum staffing of 18 personnel are distributed over 5 Engines companies, 1 Truck, 1 Rescue and one Command Vehicle in service to the citizens and visitors of the City of Casper.
The Operations division provides numerous public services to the community. In addition to structure fire responses, Casper Fire-EMS fire engines respond to medical emergencies and non-emergencies, various rescue incidents, as well as hazardous material incidents. Operations Division firefighters are also involved with teaching fire safety in Casper’s schools, inspections of numerous Casper area businesses, as well as many other calls for public service.
City/County/Area Information
Located in Natrona County, at an elevation of 5,150 feet in the heart of Wyoming, Casper is the second-largest city in the state. With a total area of 27.24 square miles, Casper boasts a rich western history, vibrant culture, and an active outdoor scene. The North Platte River, which runs through the center of the city is renowned for its world-class blue-ribbon trout. Nearby Casper Mountain offers year-round opportunities for hiking, climbing, snow skiing and snowmobiling (seasonal) while providing breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy boating, swimming, and water sports on two nearby reservoirs. For those who enjoy hunting, Natrona County and the rest of the state offer ample opportunities for big game and bird hunting. In addition to its natural beauty and diverse wildlife, Casper residents within Natrona County benefit from low tax rates and no state-income tax, with a current local sales tax of 5%.

Job Requirements
Age: Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire.US Citizen: Must have the Legal Right to work in the United States. High School Grad/GED: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.Valid State Driver’s License: Yes. Possession of a valid Wyoming driver's license preferred.Ability to Read/Speak English: XVision: 20/40 or better with both eyes with or w/o corrective lenses.College: Associate's degree or equivalent college credits in fire science, public administration or a closely related field preferred.Academy Certification: No Academy Certification required.Prior Experience: No prior experience required. Necessary Certifications: Possession of a valid Wyoming driver's license preferred and the ability to obtain a valid Wyoming Commercial Driver's License (CDL).Possession of or ability to obtain, a Wyoming State Firefighter I & II Certification, within (12) months of hire.Possession of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification card at the time of hire.Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Wyoming Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Certification within twelve (12) months of hire. If hired, Casper Fire-EMS will cover tuition and book fees for EMT Certification training. Candidates who are already certified will receive preference.Additional Requirements: CPAT -Verifiable successful CPAT required within 1 year prior to hiring date. You do not need a CPAT to test. CPAT must be current at time of hiring. Hiring ProcessCasper Fire-EMS is creating a certified eligibility list for the hiring of Firefighter Trainees once openings are available. This list is created by holding a written test administered through the National Testing Network followed by an Oral Board to create such a list. Once the final scores from the written test and oral boards are compiled and tallied, the scores are submitted to the Civil Service Commission for approval and certification. When an opening is available eligible candidates off the certified eligibility list will be contacted in their respective orders to continue with the hiring process, to include but not limited to, an initial interview, Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) completion & verification, background investigation, Chief’s interviews, psychological examination, physical examination, drug test, and driving record verification. The initial interview, Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) completion & verification, background investigation, Chief’s interviews, psychological examination, physical examination, drug test, and driving record verification, and any other processes deemed necessary, all determine the eligibility for hiring if an opening is available.Please note that a verified successful CPAT certificate is required within 1 year prior to hiring date, however, a current CPAT is not required to test.

After the testing period concludes with NTN, Casper Fire-EMS will compile a list of the top 60 candidates who pass the test. If you are among the top 60, you will be contacted and notified of your oral board interview time, which is scheduled to take place during the week of January 26th through the 30th. We understand that personal circumstances may sometimes limit travel, and as such, we are pleased to offer a virtual option for the oral board interview if needed.
