Position Title: POLICE OFFICER

Salary Information: $50,000 - $68,613

Benefit Information:

Starting salary of $50,000 with yearly raises (uncertified)

Department Overview
With one of the largest departments in the state at 174 sworn officer positions, the JPD has everything to offer. The officers are well-trained and the department prioritizes a large training budget. A career at JPD can be as mobile as you make it. JPD offers several divisions and units to be a part of. These include SWAT, Crisis Negotiator, Street Crimes Unit, K9 Unit, Traffic Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, Internet Crimes Against Children unit, Gang Investigations, Drug Task Force, Federal Task Force officers, School Resource Officers and DARE Officers. Applicant must be free of any hearing defect, which in the opinion of examining physician would adversely affect the performance of duty. Applicant must be free of a felony record, free of a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction and be of good character as determined by a background investigation

Hiring Process:
Agency MUST receive application through website www.jonesboropolice.com. After vetting, applicant will receive invite to test on preset testing date. This includes video(Frontline National) and physical agility test. (if NTN exam is given virtually, applicant will have score sent to Jonesboro Police Department and a physical exam will be scheduled for them) After passing the test, applicant will undergo a background investigation to include a polygraph examination. Next, supervisory personnel conducts a panel interview and determines eligibility to hire. If hired, a conditional offer is made. This offer is contingent upon satisfactorily passing a drug screen, physical examination and a psychological examination. Hiring personnel will set up these exams with approved physicians and testing sites.

Disqualifiers:
JPD policy dictates an applicant should not have ingested marijuana within one year of their application. Any applicant who has used anabolic steroids illegally should follow the same directive. JPD policy allows for tattoos and beard within the parameters of the policy. Tattoos must not be above the neck or below the wrists with the exception of a wedding band tattoo. Beards must be one inch off of the neckline and one/half inch in length. Beards also must be approved by staff, a sparsely spread beard or a beard that is not maintained is against policy.

Working Conditions:
Officers enjoy 11-hour shifts with two sets of day and night shifts. Shifts are on a 4 on / 4 off to 5 on / 5 off schedule. This rotates two weekends at a time where an officer is off two weekends in a row and then works two weekends in a row. There is one 6 hour training day per month. Day shifts (Alpha/Charlie) begin at 0530, 0730 and 0930 and end at 1630, 1830 and 2030. Night shifts (Bravo/Delta) begin at 1630, 1830 and 2030 and end at 0330, 0530 and 0730 Off-duty opportunities available with minimum pay of $35.00 per hour.
