The Mentor on the Lake Civil Service Commission is etablishing an eligibility list for the position of Patrol Officer.
Scores and all required documentation must be submitted by 3/6/2026.
Job Classification: Patrol Officer
Salary Information: $82,664 after Training (step One)
The rate of pay increases with proof of a degree (even non-law enforcement degrees)
Your rate of pay can increase based on prior law enforcement service (or some local government and city jobs)
Candidates seeking consideration must possess a valid Ohio Peace Officer's Certification or be enrolled in an academy.
Benefit Information
Benefits include full medical, prescription, vision, dental and life insurance. Employees receive 10 (12 hour days) paid holidays per year. Employees earn paid vacation credit as they work, which increases in rate based on prior experience. Retirement benefits provided through the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund. Paid sick time earned. Employees may earn overtime or comp time for additional hours worked.
Department Overview
Mentor on the Lake was founded in 1924. In 1970 the United States Census registered Mentor-on-the-Lake above 5000 residents. on February 12, 1971 Mentor-on-the-Lake was incorporated as a city. The City of Mentor-on-the-Lake is 1.6 square miles in area, with 99% of the land already developed. Today, there are approximately 7 acres of land left for a new business and office use. There are at present 2,600 single family homes and 700 apartments and condominiums. Our police departments responds to a variety of calls and officers have opportunities to build relationships with residents and thoroughly investigate cases. It is a menting pot with a little bit of everything in a small area. We have officers who have been a part of local swat teams, crash teams, and local task forces. We have lake views, parks, a business area and an elementary school that offers SRO details paying $50.00 per hour.

Job Requirements
Age: 20 years to apply, 21 at the time of apppointment (no age requirement limit)
Citizenship Required: Yes, must be a U.S. citizen at the time of appointment.
High School Grad/ GED: Yes, must provide a copy of your high school diploma or GED.
Valid Driver's License: Yes, must provide a copy of a valid driver's license form any state.
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Hiring Process: A minimum overall score of 70% or higher will quality for further stages of the hiring process. Those stages includea background check investigation, polygraph, psychological screening, interview, and medical examination including drug screen.
PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAMINATION:
You do not need a physical agility certificate to take the exam.
