The Clinton Police Department is currently conducting applicant testing to be placed on the City of Clinton Police & Fire Commission eligibility for hire list for the position of Police Officer with current openings to be filled immediately. Candidates are required to complete the following to be considered for the position:
Salary Information: $59,089.01 effective May 2025 and $61,009.40 effective May 2026; advancing to $83,556.85 following 19th year.

Department Overview: The Clinton Police Department is a community policing oriented municipal law enforcement agency in a small, rural, law enforcement supportive community of approximately 7,000 residents. Clinton serves as a bedroom community and is surrounded by larger cities within 30 miles in all four directions (Bloomington, Champaign, Decatur, Springfield, Lincoln). The Department is made up of fourteen (14) sworn officers and consists of the Chief of Police, Patrol Sergeants, Investigations and Patrol, with special assignments to include School Resource Officer, DARE Officer, Evidence Custodian, Firearms/Tactical Instructor, K9 Officer and Drug Task Force Investigator. The CPD provides law enforcement services to the City of Clinton municipal limits 24 hours a day with a minimum staffing of two (2) sworn officers on duty at all times. The CPD currently works a twelve (12) hour work schedule.

Candidates considered for hire will undergo oral interview(s) conducted by the Police & Fire Commission and/or the Clinton Police Department, as well as medical and psychological testing prior to a final offer of employment. Physical Ability Testing:Candidates considered for hire will be required to demonstrate successful completion of the Illinois (ILETSB) P.O.W.E.R. Test prior to entry to an academy. Failure to successfully perform the required qualifications will result in disqualification.
