The Union County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) is taking applications for the position of School Resource Officer.

Years of Experience: Three (3) or more years of full-time law enforcement experience.

Job Overview: Candidates must possess or willing to successfully complete and become certified as an School Resource Officer (SRO), Crime Prevention Officer (CPO), Modified DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officer), and RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) Instructor.An SRO is a law enforcement officer serving in a liaison position to the schools with emphasis in three main areas: functioning as a law enforcement officer in a school setting, working as a resource and problem solver, and as an educator in crime prevention programs, etc. In addition, an SRO will take active participation role by attending school functions, teaching conflict resolution, act as a mentor and as a visible presence in the schools. The SRO will play an active role in development of emergency plans and assist in all state mandated drills for the buildings.A Crime Prevention Officer (CPO) is a law enforcement officer whose duties involve organizing and maintaining crime prevention programs to educate the public in the techniques of crime prevention. The CPO will be a liaison officer with the township officials on high crime areas and will promote citizen awareness in the use of crime prevention methods. He/she will assist in the development of and presentation of youth related programs.The modified Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officer certification will be utilized in a hybrid/modified setting, this certification will benefit the deputy for class lectures, curriculum planning, etc. DARE provides students from kindergarten through high school with the skills necessary to recognize and resist pressures to experiment with drugs and to avoid gangs and violence. Lessons will emphasize self-esteem, decision making, interpersonal communications skills, the consequences of drug abuse, conflict resolution and positive alternatives, by age appropriate, evidence-based substance abuse education for all students. The UCSO SRO will work with Dublin City Schools providing the proper reinforcement tools necessary for the drug resistance classes they provide their students.The successful applicant will be cross trained in all projects and programs managed by the Support Services Division.
