Conifer Fire Protection District has 3 openings for the position of Paramedic. Conifer Fire Department is an all-hazard incident agency and combination fire district serving the communities of Buffalo Creek, Morrison and parts of Littleton in Colorado. Conifer Fire Department covers approximately 300 square miles along Highways 285 and 126 ranging from 6,000 to 10,000 feet in elevation. Conifer Fire Protection District serves residents and those recreating in some of the most scenic areas in the foothills southwest of Denver, Buffalo Creek Recreation Area and Deer Creek Park. Annual call volume is approximately 650 calls and roughly 65 percent of calls are medical. The immediate need is for Paramedics that are willing to become certified structural and wildland firefighters. Conifer Fire Protection District is within the Red Zone and there is a high potential for Wildland incidents. Conifer Fire Protection District applicants will initially work a 12-hour shift schedule, eventually progressing to a 48/96 schedule. Applicants are expected to maintain all certifications.

Testing Process

This will be a competitive and objective hiring process focused on ranking candidates based on their knowledge of EMS care and the ability to obtain firefighter status. Candidates should be prepared for a competitive interview process including:

~~National Testing Network's FireTEAM exam (completed through your NTN account)~~
~~Public Safety Self Assessments (PSSA) available to complete through your NTN account.~~
Paramedic practical skills testing.
Oral interview.
Ride Along (4 hours).
Chief’s interview.
An NFPA physical with a fit for duty rating (required upon acceptance of a conditional offer).
Criminal and motor vehicle background check (required upon acceptance of a conditional offer).

Minimum Qualifications

Current NREMT-P certification or State of Colorado State Paramedic Certification and demonstrated ability to provide high-quality ALS care.
Ability to obtain an NWCG red card certification as Firefighter, Type 2 (FFT2) or higher within 6 months of hire. This includes the ability to perform an NWCG Work Capacity Test at the rigorous level and willingness to maintain an NWCG red card annually.
Ability to obtain a Colorado State Firefighter 1 certification within 24 months of hire. This includes an annual in-house physical agility test and SCBA fit test.
Valid driver’s license.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Criminal background check and motor vehicle background check results acceptable to Conifer Fire Department.
Physical ability and willingness to participate in an annual department sponsored physical agility test once firefighter certifications are obtained.

Preferred Qualifications

Current State of Colorado Firefighter I certification.
Current NWCG red card certification as Firefighter, Type 2 or higher.
Current Driver/Operator certification or the ability and experience driving large apparatus.
