Job Classification Engineer-Firefighter
The North Bend Fire Department is currently seeking qualified Applicants for the Engineer-Firefighter position.
All candidates must take the FireTEAM exam, Work Attitude Questionnaire (WAQ), and have proof of successful completion of a Physical Ability Test uploaded to their National Testing Network (NTN) account. Must have completed all of the above to be considered further in the hiring process.

The deadline for submitting application packets is 1700 on May 27, 2026.

North Bend is a city in Coos County, Oregon, with a population of 10,317. North Bend is surrounded on three sides by Coos Bay, an S-shaped water inlet and estuary where the Coos River enters Coos Bay and borders the city of Coos Bay to the south. North Bend is within minutes of the Pacific Ocean beaches & world-class Dunes. North Bend became an incorporated city in 1903. The North Bend Fire Department was formed in 1904 and has evolved into a combination paid/volunteer fire department. North Bend Fire & Rescue handles over 2380 calls for service a year. The types of calls include fire suppression, Emergency Medical Service, wildland, technical rescue, and hazardous material response. Our department has a very respectable Class 3 ISO insurance rating.

Our Staff operate on 48/96 A-B-C schedule Salary Range: $68,781.44-$80,050.88 per year
Job Requirements Age: 18 or older US Citizen: Yes
High School Graduate/GED: Yes
Valid Oregon State Driver’s License Class C or able to obtain within 30 days. Ability to read/speak English: Yes
Vision: Correctable vision for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Prior Experience: Preferred Necessary Certifications:
• DPSST NFPA Firefighter 1
• NFPA Pumper Operator
• Must possess and maintain an Oregon EMT certification
• Must have an AHA Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) card
• Must have ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 700, & ICS 800
Hiring Process: Applicants must complete the National Testing Network FireTEAM exam, WAQ, and physical ability test by 1700 on May 27, 2026, and have them uploaded to their NTN account, as specified in the job announcement. All applicants will be notified of the final status of their application. Incomplete application packets will not be considered.
• May 27, 2026, at 5:00 pm PT – Completed National Testing Network Requirements and completed application packet received by the City of North Bend.
• June 2, 2026 – Assessment Center – North Bend, Oregon (Selected Applicants will be notified of the time.)
• June 3, 2026 – Chief’s Interview – North Bend, Oregon (Selected Applicants will be notified of the time.) Veterans’ preference will be accorded as provided by Oregon Revised Statute (ORS 408.230)
Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifications: Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, including a criminal history check.
Driving Disqualifiers: Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Oregon Class C Driver’s License, with a minimum of three years of driving experience. Must have no record of license suspension or revocation in any other state or territory. Must have fewer than three moving violations within the last five years, and no reckless driving and/or driving under the influence of a controlled substance within the last five years.
Drug Use Disqualifiers: Manufacture, trafficking, possession, and use of substances containing THC, such as marijuana or illegal drugs, is prohibited.
