The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department offers two dynamic career tracks – one designed for the experienced professional ready to advance their expertise and another tailored for individuals launching their careers as a Firefighter / Paramedic.

How to Apply:
Department Overview: The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department (MFRD) is a full-time career department consisting of 36 sworn individuals and one non-sworn employee. We are a full-service department offering services in fire suppression, EMS, technical rescue, specialized rescue, vehicle extrication, code enforcement, fire prevention and public fire education, among others. We provide EMS and fire protection to the City of Marshfield and provide Critical Care Paramedic level EMS to 13 surrounding townships and villages in Wood, Clark, and Marathon Counties. The Department also performs interfacility transfers for the Marshfield Clinic Health System and Paramedic Intercepts for area ambulance services. An essential part of a Firefighter/Paramedic’s work involves performing basic and advanced life support procedures and transporting patients. Approximately 90% of the department’s emergency responses are EMS related. Service is provided from one fire station which opened in 2010.
The primary function of a Marshfield Fire Fighter/Paramedic is to protect the community from disaster situations, including structure fires, and promote an environment of public safety within the City of Marshfield. This position involves emergency medical services (EMS), fire prevention and inspection activities, equipment and station maintenance, public education, and training.

Area Information: The City of Marshfield is located in both Wood and Marathon County. As of January 1, 2023, Marshfield's population was 18,759. The City encompasses 13.692 square miles. The fire department covers approximately 316 square miles for ambulance responses. The City is governed by a Full-Time City Administrator, part-time Mayor, and ten Alderpersons. The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department is governed by a five member Fire and Police Commission.
