Position Title: Firefighter/Paramedic
The Itasca Fire Protection District (IFPD) is accepting applications to hire 3 Firefighter/Paramedics. This process will also result in creation of an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. This list will be valid for 2 years or until exhausted. Candidates are required to complete the National Testing Network’s (NTN) FireTEAM exam, Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA), and the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) to be considered for the position.
Salary Information: Step 1 starting salary is $81,516 + $4,000 paramedic stipend!
The pay scale contains 4 steps with a top amount at $114,149.
Benefit Information: Firefighter/Paramedics with IFPD are covered under the Itasca Professional Firefighter’s Association. Salary and benefits are negotiated with the Firefighter’s union.
Department Overview:
Itasca Fire Protection District is currently home to 25 sworn personnel, including a Fire Chief, three Battalion Chiefs, two Lieutenants, one Captain (Fire Prevention Bureau), an Assistant Director of Administration, and an Executive Administrative Assistant. The IFPD currently operates one main fire station and will open a second station in December 2025.
The district covers 6.5 miles and includes portions of Itasca, Addison, Wood Dale, as well as surrounding unincorporated areas of DuPage County. Itasca Fire Protection District provides mutual and automatic aid to a population of 269,970 residents in the surrounding areas. IFPD responds to approximately 1,800 incidents a year, including fire and EMS.
Village Information:
The Village of Itasca is in DuPage County, Illinois and is approximately 23 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. It has a population of 9,500 residents. Itasca is mixed residential and commercial areas. The large daytime population includes coverage of over 7 miles of Illinois tollway and the second tallest building outside of Chicago.
