Salary Information: $3,467.00 - $4,425.00 / Monthly (depending on certifications and/or experience)

Department Overview: CGPD is the home of the South Lane 911 Center, responsible for dispatching Police as well as 911 Call Taking for Fire and Emergency Medical Services throughout a 900 square mile area. The Cottage Grove Police are dispatched within the city limits while the surrounding county area is served by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police.
Cottage Grove is home to 10,005 residents in the Southern end of the Willamette Valley and is a gateway to recreation leading to Cottage Grove and Dorena Reservoirs, the Row River Trail, and the Umpqua National Forest. Peace Health operates a full-service hospital and care provider facility, South Lane School District has a new elementary school and a fairly new high school. Cottage Grove is small-town living at its’ best.

Academy Certification: Desirable DPSST Telecommunication Certificate or similar certification from another state

Necessary Certifications: Must obtain DPSST Telecommunication Certificate and Emergency Medical Dispatch certificate within 18 months of employment

Hiring Process: All applications will be screened and qualified candidates shall proceed to the oral board process, interview with the Chief and background, medical/vision/psychological screening
General Statement of Duties: This position is responsible for maintaining the communication network between the Cottage Grove Police Department and its Officers, city residents, and other agencies. It is a technical position requiring multi-tasking capabilities in a stressful environment. A professional Communications Specialist is a highly responsible, multi-functional public servant who must handle many tough requirements, often in crisis situations.
Minimum Qualifications: United States citizen within one year of employment, high school graduate or equivalent, 18 years of age, possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Class C Oregon driver license, no felony convictions.
Desirable Qualifications:: Preference will be given to candidates with Oregon D.P.S.S.T. Telecommunication Certification or similar certification from another state, other law enforcement experience, college education, or military service. The City of Cottage Grove recognizes Veterans’ Preference in accordance with federal law.
Testing Process: All applicants must apply through the National Testing Network and submit a signed City of Cottage Grove application, take and submit ECOMM test results. Upon screening of qualified candidates they will move on to an oral board process, interview by the Chief of Police, comprehensive background investigation, medical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug test.
