Job Classification: Part-Time Firefighter/Firefighter Paramedic
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) is conducting ongoing testing to develop a pool of candidates for the position of Part-Time Firefighter/Firefighter Paramedic. This testing is being done for both Regular hiring (individuals who are not currently Firefighter/Paramedics) and Lateral hiring (individuals who are currently Firefighter/Paramedics).
As needed the MTFPD will contact individuals from the pool of candidates to participate in the remainder of the testing process. In order to be considered for the Spring 2021 hiring, the FireTEAM test, Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with ladder climb (note – CPAT is waived for individuals that meet the requirements of the Lateral Hiring Program) must be successfully completed and the District employment application and documentation submitted via online by Monday, February 15, 2021 at 4:00 PM. The CPAT must be dated between within 1 year of your application for employment.
There is a $55 one-time application fee to establish an account with the National Testing Network. Candidates who have financial hardship can apply for assistance through NTN.
Part-time Firefighters work 12 or 24-hour shifts. Each shift begins at 6:00 AM or 6:00 PM and requires the member to remain on duty until the shift concludes in 12 or 24 hours. All part-time firefighters are required to participate in the shift rotation, based on shift availability.

Job Requirements (Regular Hiring-individuals who are not currently Firefighter/Paramedics): Age: Be 21 Years of age or older, or between 18 and 21 years of age and have a minimum of one (1) semester completed and be actively enrolled and in good standing in an accredited college program and working towards the attainment of an associate’s degree in Fire Science. Official, sealed college transcripts will be required at the time of application. US Citizenship Legal resident of the United States of America High School Grad/GED: High school diploma, G.E.D. certificate or equivalent Valid State Driver's License: Possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License or the Wisconsin equivalent (if applicable for Wisconsin residents) Ability to Read/Speak English: Be capable of reading, speaking and writing in the English language Medical: Medical evaluation including vision and other requirements in accordance with the current edition of NFPA 1582.
Hiring Process:
Residency: Residency - There are 2 classes of residency requirements based on the level of fire and EMS certification that the individual has at the time of their application. Legal documentation of residency including driver’s license will be required at time of application
