Job Classification: Firefighter/Paramedic
The Ocoee Fire Department is creating an eligibility list for additional positions which will be opening over the next few months. Firefighter/Paramedics will be preferred for these job openings. Preference will be given to Paramedics, however, EMTs may be considered with the requirement to attain their paramedic certification within (2) two years of hire date.
Salary Information: $40,000.22 (Paramedic Incentive is $8,000 additional)

Department Overview: The City of Ocoee Fire / Rescue operate from 4 fire stations strategically located throughout the city to provide maximum response in minimum time. The City has a rapidly growing fire department with very good opportunities for advancement. The City of Ocoee Fire / Rescue also provide protection to the Town of Windermere.
Area Information: Ocoee is a demographically diverse community covering a 15.5 square mile area in West Orange County, Florida. Ocoee is in the metropolitan Orlando area and is the 3rd largest city in Orange County

High School Grad/GED: High School or GED
Valid FLORIDA State Driver's License: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license without any restrictions that may affect ability to perform the essential functions of work outlined herein.
Academy Certification: Must possess a State of Florida certification as a Firefighter Minimum Standards

Candidates must register with the National Testing Network (NTN) and complete a written examination (FireTEAM) and candidate physical agility test (CPAT); results of those assessments must be received by the city prior to the interview process. The Ocoee Fire Department encourages those interested in the position to complete the NTN testing in advance since testing availability is very congested once the posting is officially opened.

Essential Functions: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the intermittent performance of extremely physical demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of extremely heavy objects (150+ pounds), such as in the event of rescuing or transporting a victim/patient in the performance of rescue operations. When performing fire services and/or rescue operations, tasks are performed with potential for intermittent exposure to occupational health hazards including, but not limited to, fire, extreme temperatures, wetness, humidity, inclement weather, loud noises, toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, pathogens, fumes, gases, odors, erratic or unpredictable human behavior, weapons, and explosives. Tasks include working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surrounding and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment including, but not limited to, various types of containment suits, self-contained breathing apparatus equipment (SCBA) and safety gear.
Environmental Requirements: Some tasks are performed in outdoor environments. Due to the nature and non-specific location of the work environment, tasks include potential for lengthy exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g. heat, humidity, inclement weather. Some tasks are performed in highly critical and hazardous conditions, where fire and/or other life threatening situations occur. Exercising established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents. Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heighted awareness to surrounding and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents. Other work requires diplomatic, skillful, and immediate response to potentially violent situations and must submit to essential safety precautions to avoid personal injury or injury to the general public.
