Salary Information: $10.90 - $15.95 per hour. Candidates are eligible to receive top pay after 2 years of service. Candidates with experience may start at a higher rate.

Department Overview: The City of Eaton Police Division is a professional organization where police officers play a vital role in serving a wonderful community. Part Time Police Officers are fully trained in an exceptional Field Training Program, participate in all departmental training and events, and are regularly scheduled for duty hours.

Necessary Certifications: Must possess an Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate within 6 months of application. Successful candidates do not receive compensation while attending the police academy, nor does the Eaton Police Division pay for academy expenses.
Schooling Prior and Post Hiring: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED. Candidates must be able to successfully complete the Field Training Program.
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors: Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers:
Never been charged with or convicted of a felony, have outstanding criminal cases against them, or a conviction of domestic violence.
Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be insurable as a driver under City of Eaton’s insurance policy.
Drug Use Disqualifiers:
No history of substance abuse, or drug use, within 5 years of the date of application.
Never been terminated from employment. Never been asked to resign employment as a peace officer, corrections officer, or dispatcher.
Failed to meet the requirements of Child Support. Poor credit or bankruptcy without valid explanation
Minimum Acceptable Characteristics (*indicates developed after employment): Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Emergitech software; geographic layout of jurisdiction;* department policies and procedures;* investigation techniques; arrest procedures; law enforcement procedures and methods; techniques of collection and preservation of evidence; civil and criminal laws; traffic laws.
Skills in: computer operation; motor vehicle operation; operation and care of firearms; use or operation of cameras, radar, breathalyzer, radio; use of restraint devices.
Ability to: carry out simple instructions; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; exercise independent judgment and discretion; prepare accurate documentation; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; conduct effective interviews; communicate effectively; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; demonstrate physical agility; lift carry, push and pull individuals up to 200 lbs. Must pass a physical fitness assessment.
Civil Service Qualifications and Military Credit: The ranking exam will consist of a written test administered by the National Testing Network. The minimum passing score on this test is seventy percent (70%). Applicable credits will be added to the passing written test score (total maximum credit allowed equals 20 points) to include military veteran active service. Such credits will be added only upon the presentation of documentation evidencing active military service of at least 180 consecutive days with honorable discharge and provided the candidate has achieved a minimum passing grade on the examination without regard to this or any other credit.
