Pay & Benefits: WMFR offers a competitive salary and benefits package with a beginning salary, (as of October 1, 2019), of $15.50 per hour for probationary FF/EMT to $21.42 per hour for FF/EMT 1st class. The District has a Chapter 175 pension plan for firefighters, health, dental and vision coverage’s, 457 deferred compensation plan, Retirement Health Savings Plan, Wellness plan, disability benefits, death benefits, educational benefit, Charge Paramedic incentive, other incentive pays and longevity pay.
Department/City Information: West Manatee Fire Rescue District is organized as a Florida Independent Special District that is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners elected by the citizens of the fire district. The District covers approximately 18 square miles and includes the Cities of Anna Maria, Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach as well as the unincorporated areas; Cortez, Tidy Island, Palma Sola, West and Northwest Bradenton. The assessed value of real property within the District is 5.1 billion dollars with a taxable value of 3.7 billion dollars. The population of the District is currently 27,000 with a seasonal influx of approximately 15,000 non-residents. The district has 19,034 parcels, with 92% of the parcels being residential. Vacant parcels represent 6% and businesses represent 1.9% of the existing parcels. The District protects approximately 45,307,412 square feet of property.The District employs forty (40) full-time personnel who operate from the District’s three fire stations. There are thirty-three (33) firefighters and officers assigned to three engine companies responding from three fire stations. There are three (3) emergency response shifts. Each of the three (3) shifts is under the command of a Battalion. Administrative staff includes the Fire Chief, Administrative Battalion Chief, Administrative Assistant, Financial Clerk, Fire Marshal, and two Inspectors.
