Department Overview: The department has 56 career fire personnel, including the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, six Captains, three Lieutenants, nine Engineers, and 36 Firefighters. All members are paramedics operating under the guidance of the South Cook County Emergency Medical Services System. Many members also participate in specialty rescue teams, including Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, and Dive Teams.
The Department is a member of MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Division 24 and the Third Fire District, which consists of 20 municipalities. These departments, along with others, provide mutual aid to Calumet City in the event of significant incidents. The Village of South Holland, the Village of Dolton, and the Village of Lansing Fire Departments provide automatic aid on structure fires. The department handles approximately 9,000 calls per year from two stations.

Necessary Certifications: Must be an Illinois State-certified Paramedic at the time of hire.Must have a current CPAT card with ladder certification valid within six (6) months of the hire date.
Additional Requirements: Submit Military DD214 (if applicable)
Hiring Process:Step 1: View Mandatory Orientation.Step 2: Pass the NTN examination with a score of 70 or higher.Step 3: Complete an oral interview with the Calumet City Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
Step 4: Pass a thorough background investigation, psychological assessment, medical screening, and drug screening.
