Department Overview:
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGResponsible for overall supervision of subordinate dispatch personnel. Provide and oversee training. Plan work assignments. Requires full knowledge and ability to perform all duties of subordinates which would include the support of field enforcement units to carry out their responsibilities and the statutory responsibilities of the Department of Public Safety. Emergency Services Dispatchers provide both emergency and non-emergency dispatching/communication services for airports, State and local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical services, and the public to minimize the loss of life and property.OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTUREThe Department of Public Safety (DPS) strives to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. City/County/Area Information: THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECTThis Emergency Services Dispatcher 2 position is based in Fairbanks located at 1979 Peger Road, Fairbanks, Alaska. The work environment is fast paced and is located in a secure space.

Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Prior Experience: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Three years of experience as an Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. WORK EXPERIENCE Applications will be reviewed to determine if minimum qualifications are met. Therefore, all work experience the applicant is using to meet minimum qualifications for this position must be documented in the application package. Applicants who submit application packages that do not provide sufficient information to demonstrate minimum qualifications are met may not advance in the selection process.
Necessary Certifications: TYPING TEST A typing test certificate must be submitted with the application. APSIN Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
Additional Requirements: BACKGROUND CHECK This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
