The Lake Oswego Police Department does not require an ORPAT exam to be completed at the time of application however we will require the ORPAT exam to be completed and passed prior to a job offer.

Department Overview: The Lake Oswego Police Department is known for maintaining a high level of service to the community. There are 42 full-time sworn-officers. Special Assignments include two K9 Handers, two Motor Officers, four Detectives, a TriMet Officer, SWAT Officer, Training Officer, School Resource Officer, and an Adult Resource Officer. The Department is also home to a Communication Center with 15 Trained Emergency Medical Dispatchers.
Area Information: Located in the northwestern corner of Clackamas County on the banks of the scenic Willamette River and hugging the shore of a 405-acre lake, Lake Oswego is nestled among many of Oregon’s greatest attractions: Mount Hood, the Oregon Coast, the Columbia Gorge, and nearby vineyards, farmlands, and forests. Lake Oswego is also ideally situated close to Oregon’s major metropolitan areas – just eight miles south of downtown Portland and about 45 minutes north of the state capitol in Salem.
Lake Oswego is considered one of the finest residential areas in Oregon. Unlike some communities its size, Lake Oswego offers full-service police and fire protection, a celebrated library, and parks system.

Education and Experience: To qualify, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, have no felony conviction, be at least 21 years of age, have as a minimum a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, vision correctable to 20/20, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to successfully complete a thorough background investigation and post-offer psychological and medical examination, including pre-employment drug screen. This position is subject to mandatory participation in electronic funds transfer (EFT) for payment of net wages (i.e., Direct Deposit or PayCard).
